Our Founding Pastor

Bishop Joseph Mitchell Sr. Th.D was born December 21, 1942 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Reverend Albert J. Mitchell and Evangelist Avis Mitchell.

He was educated in the public school system of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Denver, Colorado. He received a certificate from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also attended the University of Colorado Denver. He is a graduate of Minnesota School of Theology, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota with a doctorate of theology

.

On June 14, 1975, he was joined in marriage to Betty Russell at Saint Peter’s AME Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bishop Mitchell was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, Memorial Day 1977 at New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, Minneapolis, Minnesota where he served faithfully for four years under the pastorate of Elder Edgar and Evangelist Lavada White. It was evident to all immediately after his conversion that God’s hand was upon this man and that he had been especially “anointed” to minister in the “Word of God”. There was such depth in his preaching and teaching.

After a season of intense fasting and prayer he humbly came to his wife, Sister Betty and then to his Pastor, Elder white and acknowledged his call to the ministry in October 1977. He was ordained by the Minnesota Jurisdiction of the Churches of God In Christ, Bishop S. H. Overton on July 26, 1981.

In August of 1981, Bishop Mitchell began pastoring THEE HOUSE UV BETH-EL, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bishop Mitchell was actively involved in a citywide ministry to men and the chemically dependent. His “dynamite” teaching on the five-fold ministries has “loosed” the people of God to a deeper revelation of the good news. He was nationally recognized as a marriage counselor and a “Pastor’s” Pastor. Bishop Mitchell was likened to a modern day “Father Abraham”, and many ministries have been launched and founded upon the teachings of this mighty man of God and counseled many throughout his life time. He served as the spiritual leader and advisor to Bishop Charles Messenger and Dr. Debra Messenger of Antioch Christian Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota and Pastor Uriel Caine to God be the Glory Evangelical Ministries in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served on the board of EMWMI.
